HERB RITTS (1952-2002) (American)
Born in 1952 in California (US), he begins his photographic career in the
seventies working with Hollywood stars.
He also works with some of the most important Italian newspapers until the
beginning of the eighties.
The Nude is the main theme of Ritts' imagery: models, muscular men,
athletes, African women, bodies that express force, sensuality and beauty,
sometimes veiled, sometimes covered by sand.
The pictures of personalities from the world of movies and fashion are also
very famous: Richard Gere, Elizabeth Taylor, Jack Nicholson, Madonna, Cindy
Crawford and many others.
His wonderful and breathless nudes of athletes of the Olympic Games of Atlanta 1996 have also gained an incredible audience.
Among the many photographic books he has published, we should pay special
attention to: "Duo ", " Herb Ritts: Work ", "Africa " and " Men, Women ".
The calendars of 1997 and 1998 which are very beautiful, deserve to be seen.
Ritts dies in Los Angeles on 26th December, 2002, at age of 50, due to complications from pneumonia.
